ARTISTS TO BE HUNG ON THE SUPREME COURT FENCE
… come witness the public hanging in Taylor Square!
On Saturday October 22nd an outdoor art fair will be staged in Taylor Square North in conjunction with the Oxford Arts Festival 2011. Over 200 artworks will be on view to the public; with live entertainment, street theatre, celebrities, special guest speakers and many prizes to be won.
There will be prizes awarded, with the theme being the Postcode 2010 Precinct, in either landscape or portraiture. Guests in attendance will choose the winner of the Darlo Bar People’s Choice Prize, a cash prize of $500, by casting their vote on the day. Another prize sponsored by Oxford Art Supplies will be judged by their representative, which is art materials to the value of $500. The entry fee per work is $25 which includes a canvas available at TAP Gallery. You may use your own canvas, however, it must be the same size (40 x 50cm or 16” x 20”) and must be unframed for easy hanging on the day. Click here for more information.
This is a community event that is designed to highlight and recognise the unique character of the area. The 2010 Postcode has many iconic features including two large Arts Institutions: The National Art School & College of Fine Arts (COFA); historic architecture; its urban lanscape and landmarks; The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras; The Gay Mile; the night clubs; iconic drag queens; the many homeless, fabulous local identities and many other interesting subjects. There is no shortage of inspiration!
All artists, in all mediums are invited to enter the Oxford Art Prize. Over $3000 worth of prizes to be won. All works are guaranteed to be hung.
Local businesses have rallied to support this valuable project; the major sponsors being The Love 2010 Business Partnership, Oxford Art Supplies, Darlo Bar (Solotel Group) Alternative Media Group and TAP Gallery. The art prize aims to highlight the hidden gems of this internationally renowned cultural quarter; in and surrounding Darlinghurst, Surry Hills, Oxford Street and Taylor Square. Above are some wonderful artworks from 2010.
